Chef Was the Only Criminal Stone Left Unturned on Governor’s Staff

Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell made sure all of his employees had passed strict background checks before hiring them for their positions.  For some reason though, one employee was left off that list; his chef.  Unfortunately, the one place the administration didn’t look, ended up being the one place they should have.  It turns out, his chef, Todd Schneider, had been convicted of petty larceny and embezzlement, which are not the kind of crimes state politicians want associated with their administration.  Schneider’s crimes only surfaced because of an FBI investigation regarding “allegations of impropriety in the kitchen operations at the governor’s mansion.”

The administration failed to comment on how Schneider’s background check was missed, but it’s likely they’ll be beefing up their hiring processes in light of the bad press they’re getting.  They may decide to perform ongoing criminal monitoring for their staff, which could alert them to new crimes of current employees and would make certain all staff were checked in case they were somehow missed during their hiring.  They may also want to include Credit Report checks in order to shed light on any suspicious financial activity, since some personnel deal with state funds.  By partnering with a reputable background check company like backgroundchecks.com, they could carry out these checks quickly and affordably.
