Ohio Replacing State Criminal Background Check System
Following revelations last year that Ohio's state criminal background check system was obsolete and incomplete, the state's Attorney General is taking steps to replace the system entirely. According to an Associated Press report, Attorney General Mike DeWine is "awaiting bids for the job," which will involve a complete overhaul of the system's hardware and software components.
New Mexico School District Adds Instant Volunteer Checks
Going forward, all volunteers at Rio Rancho Public Schools in Rio Rancho, New Mexico will have to undergo background checks—though, not necessarily the traditional kind that many of us are familiar with. On the contrary, instead of giving their names, fingerprints, or other identifying details to the school district for a background investigation, volunteers will instead be subject to "instant" background checks upon their arrivals at Rio Rancho school buildings.
Background Checks Leading to Las Vegas Bailiff Shortage?
Is a pre-employment background check making it difficult for Las Vegas courts to fill bailiff positions? That could be the case, based on a recent report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal. According to the local publication, a new bailiff program was established in North Las Vegas last year as a means of filling positions and saving the city money. So far, the program has failed to do either of those things, and criminal background checks could be part of the reason why.
