Richmond Metropolitan Area

Located in a deeply historic region, the Richmond metropolitan area, also known as Greater Richmond, has a population of about 1.2 million. The region includes thirteen counties: Amelia, Caroline, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, King William, New Kent, Powhatan, Prince George, and Sussex. Cities in Virginia maintain their independence from county governance; the metro area has four major cities in Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Area

A dense urban cluster in the very heart of the state, Indianapolis is Indiana’s largest metro area with a population of 1.9 million. It is an important component of the larger Great Lakes region, which includes many other metros in nearby states. The Indianapolis region comprises eleven counties: Boone, Brown, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Putnam, and Shelby.

Las Vegas Valley

The Las Vegas Valley, the largest metropolitan region in Nevada, is located at the southern tip of the state and contains a population of about 2.2 million. The region is comprised of only one county, Clark, which includes the entire Valley within its borders. Major cities in the metro region include its namesake along with the communities of North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Paradise.
